It was a huge honor to be Award Music Champion of the year at AVIMA 2010 for my work in promoting Indie Music Scene in both India and Asia and the Public Relations and Promoting I do for my artists, but it does not feel like work to me it feels like what I was born to do !
Announcement posted on 14 Apr 2010 at 10:38pm: There was only one person we could think of, when we created this award earlier this year... The First AVIMA 2010 Award goes to Eva Dowd |
"Asian Music Champion of The Year"
If you’re from India, and you’re part of the Indie music scene, then she needs no introduction. If you’re not from India, and you’re a musician somewhere in Asia, then let us share the fact that Eva was instrumental in a lot of things that Voize has done to help the Asian indie scene.
Eva is of course the heart, soul, and passion behind two of India’s biggest rock bands – Motherjane and Sanjeev T & The Rainbow Bridge. The amount of marketing and promotion work she has done for these two bands and also for other indie acts from India is the stuff of legends. We know of many a time when, with her mouse in her hand, she has ended up sleeping in front of her computer. “We go..Eva..Eva..you there?”
The funny thing is..she’s not from India. She lives in Boston and is proud of her gypsy heritage. We know she’s a damn good belly dancer, but perhaps we digress. Due to the huge time difference between countries like Malaysia and India, Eva burns the midnight oil, awake, while everyone is asleep. And it may surprise most when we reveal she actually has a full time job with a multi-million dollar company.
Eva has been on a long journey with us. That’s why we know her best. She has lobbied, pestered, pushed, driven, championed, promoted, hollered, cried, laughed and celebrated the Indian and Asian independent music scene with us. Together with a host of other amazing music people such as Lizza Nakpil of Philippines, Silvie from Bali, Gregory Jackson from USA, Karishma Menon from India, Chris B from Hong Kong, Keith Tan and Willy Tan from Singapore, and many more, we have built an Asian Coalition for Indie acts, quietly working behind the scenes as a think tank.
And now as we are in the 2nd year of AVIMA, Eva has unconditionally championed not just her acts, but also the Indian music scene as a whole, promoting them in every nook and corner of the world. We should know coz we were observing, watching and smiling of how this amazing (but fiery) gypsy angel went beyond her own strength and boundaries to pull off the unimaginable.
We salute you today Eva, for your perseverance and love for music. And for being a gentle and kind soul to help the needy too (We thank you for helping to kick start the Awakening Project with an orphanage in India).
Motherjane won Best Rock Band of Asia last year, and Sanjeev T and his band is up for 4 nominations this year. Win or lose, Im sure both these acts will have nothing but the greatest respect for Eva.
We at Voize, ACIA, AVIMA and on behalf of Asia thank you Eva for all that you have done and we look forward to even greater milestones in the near future.
We believe this award comes exactly a week before your birthday. Our happiest advanced birthday wishes to you.
Eva Dowd..Asian Music Champion of The Year. For her outstanding contribution, marketing and promotion of the indie music scene in India and Asia. You have deserved it!!
We will also try and get the full story of how this beautiful American angel crossed paths with Motherjane and Sanjeev and how she would go on to champion them and build that rainbow bridge between east and west.
“We hope this award will go on to inspire and motivate music promoters from around the world to know that we will recognize them for all the hard work, passion and determination put into the music scene. We hope to give out more awards like these next year and one of the criteria will be to champion beyond just the music promoter’s act, but also what contribution one invests into the music scene as a whole. “, said Siva Chandran, founder of AVIMA and Managing Editor of Voize.my
